In my visual work I research the fabric of our society. I am particularly fascinated by personalities and structures that operate outside the norm. My practice is a constant search for an artform that is ‘in between’: a visual artwork that can be presented on a stage, a theatrical installation that can be shown in a gallery.
My personal need for *just being able to exist* outside of this neoliberal framework has oriented my current artistic focus on the tension between private and public. Using walking as a method for understanding space and counter-mapping as an invitation to look at space differently, I try to regain a feeling of self-governance in a place where everything seems to be written down in a fixed script.
My background as a costume designer connects my work as a common thread.
I still work on commission, giving preference to assignments where I have the artistic freedom to make elaborate, sculptural costumes.
I collaborate with other artists to make theatrical work, looking for an interdisciplinary form by mixing theatre with live music and film.
I create minor disruptions in the city as a means to counteract the privatization of our public space, and gently invite others to do so as well.
I like to do it all.
But mostly, I walk.
